Review: Why GoDaddy Managed WordPress Hosting is Crap.

The amount of time I’ve spent trying to fix this hosting service is exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, I am not bashing GoDaddy…just one of the products they offer.

GoDaddy actually has pretty solid uptime rankings: 99.94% (April 2020 to March 2021) and great page load time (so long as you build a fairly lightweight site). They also have a very competitive price for hosting in this industry.

However, GoDaddy Managed WordPress is only good when you never have a problem with the site. Now, considering WordPress is comprised of open source software, themes and sometimes 25+ plugins (when you’re running a WooCommerce site) you’ll be fighting a losing battle if something goes wrong during the update process (which can and DOES happen – see maintenance plans).

How does WordPress Managed Hosting differ from cPanel Hosting at Godaddy? Well, managed hosting means no control over your WordPress Core version because they automatically upgrade and you cannot revert. It also means a clunky File Manager that often fails to load (during a crash this is a nightmare and I don’t love FTP). Recently, I had a site crash while updating to WooCommerce 5.5.2, the error was due to GoDaddy having a problem with this hosting product and their compatibility with the new WooCommerce release.

I’ve never had these concerns with their cPanel Hosting Products, as those run very smoothly. I truly love the customer service at GoDaddy, they get 5 stars. However, the purpose of WordPress is to have full control and I don’t feel this is accomplished with Managed WordPress Hosting.
